Functional Heartburn

Functional heartburn is a condition where the sufferer experiences burning sensations in their chest and throat. This is often caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), but can also be the result of other conditions. Functional heartburn is different from regular heartburn in that it is not caused by increased stomach acid, inflammation of the stomach lining, hiatal hernia or an ulcer.

The underlying causes of functional heartburn is SIBO, candida, mast cell activation syndrome, pancreatic excretory dysfunction and low acid. Here at Lilly of The Valley Gut Health, a functional integrative approach to functional heartburn is used. In the process of uncovering the root cause, NP Lori uses conventional and specialty diagnostics as well in some situations medicines and herbs while treating the root causes above.
